So here's the ground work for the SD Megaguirus in the future. As per usual we have the Neo by Matt Frank, the monster's current incarnation (millenium), a hybrid of the previous two, and the Super Deformed verison.

Neo is an interesting version. He went with a more dragonfly build. The four wings make it possible for hovering and complete direction control. The hunched and enlarged thorax give an impression of a powerful circulatory system needed to fly that damn fast. The claws aren't as impressive as the original but the forearms are more thorny. The legs kinda hang there and don't look strong enough to support that powerful thorax if Megaguirus ever decided that she needed to sit down. The red orbs along the tail from the concept art are present and the stinger got a wonderful make over. The major beefs with this version are the mouth thats rather hard to make out, the small claws, and the humongous tail. The Neo's tail to body ration is not equal which makes her seem a tad bottom heavy.

The Millenium is pretty good but has its own flaws. The head is a tad on the big side and for something that needs all the lift it can get thats a problem. The design for said head is great and the jaws are the great mesh of insect and reptile that gives her a characteristic grin. The huge claws are major weapons and the tail, while not as dynamic as the Neo, creates a sense of balance with the rest of the body. The wings look sturdier than the Neo's but there is only one pair of them so technically she can't really hover. The legs are stronger here and her back carries a line of spines that connect her to Godzilla in a fashion (considering she got her energy from Godzilla this makes sense).

I'm not happy with the profile view of the Hybrid, the head is supposed to be more slanted but you can get the general gist of what I'm going for here. The strongly slanted 'V' shaped head of the Neo complete with 'Guyver' eyes, and the deadly grin and visible jaw of the Millenium. Thinking back on it, the big thorax makes sense so I'd probably make that more evident then I did here. I like the idea of neck and the row of 'godzillaesque' spines down the back since she's technically a mutation from Godzilla's radioactive energy. The claws are an important feature and powerful weapons so I merged the concepts together to create BIG THORNY CLASPERS OF DOOM. The wings were also merged together. There are four wings but the main pair are segemented and sturdy like the millenium. The back up pair are fleshy like the Neo and provide that extra mobility and control. Now the tail, it is pretty much like the Neo's...but it has the Milleniums proportions. The hole at the end of the Milleniums wasn't included so I suppose her egg laying capabilities are somewhere behind her legs like a reptiles would be. Its handy excuse for me to keep that awesome stinger.

The SD would be based on the Hybrid, providing there are no further revisions. Sadistic, gleeful, and ambitous. That about sums up my idea of what a 'child' version of Megaguirus would be like. You know that little girl that sneaks up behind you, stabs you with a tack, and runs away laughing? Thats Megagurius. Don't piss her off though, otherwise she'll have her children eat you.

I'm liking the hybrid version a lot. It combines my favorite parts of both versions.

The Neo versions's Guyver eyes, while no replacement for the classic evil grin, really gave her a sense of menace that she just HAS to have. Including both just makes her that much more hardcore.

For what it's worth, the millenium version did actually have the tail-orbs. We don't get much of an underside shot in the film, but they're there. I like them, since they give us a window to watch her siphon energy through.

The wings are a good compromise. They keep what I like about the original, while making it more feasible and insect-like.

And of course, the legs and pincers hold up nicely. I mean, with all due respect to Matt and his ideas, why did he feel the need to reduce her claws? They're her primary melee weapons!
That, and the ridiculously out of place lobster claw effect really gives her that exaggerated vibe that reminds you she's a giant monster first and foremost.

And it's refreshing to see someone else who's not dead set on making her into a full blown dragonfly. I mean, style before logic, right? And anyway, becoming an insect/dinosaur chimera due to bio-energy absorbtion is hardly any less feasible than anything else going on in daikaiju flicks.
The dinosaur head, spines and general chimeric appeal are part of what makes Megaguirus so bloody frightening to look at. I mean, when you look at that design, she can be standing completely still and still radiate dynamicy.

All in all, I'm loving the direction you're taking with this one.

Success  !

My memory of the movie is rather foggy and the internet was not being all that helpful in terms of full body shots so I judged her tail design off of the game model. They must have been lazy or something.

There's only one thing that bothers me design wise. How the hell does Megaguirus sit? I guess a better question is how do you think she looks at rest? I can't help but think that those huge claws make it rather awkward for her to lay down. Maybe she uses them to hang upside down =P.

It's not that I don't like society, It's that I've been forced to live out side of it due to the over whelming force of: conservatives, conformists, liberals, republicans, democrats, enviromentalists, terrorists, right wingers, religous zealots, media...

Well, she perched on top of a lot of buildings in the movie. She was oddly similar to a real dragonfly in those scenes.

I guess she just finds places to perch when she wants to land.

The hybrid looks wicked, dude.
:iconrendragonclaw:
Thanks, I appreciate it =D.

Yeah, I wish I could have drawn the final with that same vibe. It wanted to be angry instead no matter what I did. Anyway, thanks for checking this out.
