Zilla Sketch Study 2

By that mighty force of hope that is Barrack Obama, I got to leave class in only half an hour and work on this little beauty throughout the morning. This is Hybrid Zilla and I have to say I'm rather pleased with how he turned out. Zilla, as it turns out, is very fun and easy to draw. His overall lizardness jives very well with my curve and sharp point ridden style of drawing. Would also explain why Zilla got an animated series in the recent era while Godzilla only has Hana Barbara to look back on. He's probably much easier and more exciting to animate. Not that Godzilla couldn't have his own badass animated series with today's audiences but most fans are sticklers for tradition and seeing an icon in only one way, much like his owners...*ahem*

Anyway, Hybrid Zilla supposedly brings the good stuff about most of the versions while skipping most of the not so good and maintaining Zilla's zillaness. The head and neck are very much like the Neo but it has the Series's head and chin. Its not so absurd as the Neo's was. I got a smoke waft coming from his nostrils to illustrate that he still has the Atomic Fire ability from the series as he should have. The dewlap from the Neo goes back to the base creature, ie the marine iguana. I thought that only made sense and I kept it. This is where the orange color will make an appearance later. The Arms are long and meaty, good for clawing and digging, and climbing. Hands and feet have five digits but the feet have two dew claws in order to keep his iconic T-Rex feet. Spines are a mix between Neo's and Shisei's with the spines traveling down the back and tail and such like the Neo's. A major thing I thought about when drawing him is that while Zilla is not Godzilla, he is often 'mistaken' for Godzilla. So if my Hybrid Godzilla 2000 has a gator tail and big spines then naturally Zilla would something approximet to confuse people. Having flattened whip tail instead of the think club tail also makes it easier to swim, an activity he does often. End of said tail has the three dark stripes of his iguana forebearer, an aspect of MM's Zilla. I kinda thought Zilla's fingers where a little under perpared for digging, so I turned the Neo's knuckle studs into knuckle spikes instead. That way he has even more tooth to rip dirt with as he's pawing away. For those that can't tell he has the belly spikes from the Series and most of the armored plating. GINO and Shisei contribute their skin textures and scales while Neo added the armored knobs to give Hybrid Zilla a truly reptilian vibe. Hybrid Zilla's tail is huge like the Neo's since Iguana's have long tails, Godzilla has a long tail, so naturally he gets a long ass tail to smack people with. The eye glows but has a distinct pupil, thus the shading and light lines.

I've also done a little stat work for the guy so here's what Hybrid Zilla amounts to pretty much. I'm also typing my notes for better visibility.

Powers:
- Incredible running speed, 200 MPH
- Omnipedal movement
- Strong swimmer, climber, and burrower
- Razor sharp claws, teeth, and spikes
- Tough scaly hide
- Can breath Atomic Fire
- Cunning and agile opponent
- Powerful whip like tail
- Can use improvised weaponry
- Bacteria ridden mouth leaves festering wounds
- Slight healing factor

Weaknesses:
- Some what vulnerable to conventiional weaponry
- Atomic Fire lacks concussive force of Atomic Breath
- Often mistaken for Godzilla. this attracts unwanted aggression from other monsters.
- Will flip between reckless tenacity and overly cautious frequently

Territory: Manhattan Harbor and most Atlantic Ocean islands. Avoids Monster Island like the plague.

Notable Rivals:
- Godzilla (Gman hates look alikes and Zilla hates being lorded over)
- Anguirus (REALLY HATES Godzilla look alikes due to prior experience with one, Zilla avoids him if he can)
- Titanosaurus ( conflict over territory and food make them competitive but respectful rivals )
- GDF (they want to either detain or kill him, feeling is mutual, save for the detaining part)
- Clover (recent competetor for the Manhattan Harbor. Share a strenous truce at best.)

Notable Allies:
- HEAT (Nick still studies and follows the species)
- Clover (will put aside differences to beat a more dangerous foe)
- Ebirah (keeps to himself but will aid his neighbors if the need is dire or the battle is on his door step. Zilla just gives the lobster his space and he's a happy crawfish)
- Kamoebas (initially reluctant to trust Zilla after a brutal mauling by Godzilla. The two have formed a stable friendship and are more than willing to defend the other should the need arise)

Basically Hybrid Zilla is a third Zilla. Long story short, Series Zilla died fighting and killing the Gryphon and Nick starts haunting Series Zilla's past battle sites and happens upon a surviving egg left by Komodothriax. Being an genetically unstable species to begin with, this more elements reared Zilla has more in common with his reptilian ancestors and doesn't bond as closely to Nick though still looks favorably on the human. Zilla grows to full size and is discovered by the GDF who for all intents and purposes do not need another rogue monster running amuck. They capture him and take him to Monster Island and immediately Zilla is forced to engage in guerilla warfare with the 'King' and his 'loyal subjects'. Finally cornering Zilla, Godzilla attempts to obliterate the disturbingly familiar kaiju. On deaths door, Zilla desperately spits flaming, bacteria ridden saliva into Godzilla's eyes; buying him enough time to leap into the waves and burrow beneath the containment field while Godzilla blindly fires atomic blasts in utter fury. Zilla limps his way back to the Atlantic, hiding in Madagascar to recover his wounds. Upon returning to Manhattan, Zilla encounters Clover and the two kaiju battle for the harbor, eventually sudduing the surprisingly adolescent kaiju but sparing him. Zilla's distant but tolerently supportive attitude toward other kaiju brings more reclusive kaiju into the area like Ebirah. Komoebas arrives and is inititally terrified of Zilla but eventually comes to realize that the brutish hell beast that technically killed him was not the stoic reptile before him and the two gradually came to rely on each other after they were forced to repel a GDF offensive to get rid of Zilla for good. A battle that Clover and Ebirah also participated in due to mutual interest in keeping their lairs intact and themselves unmolested. Some time later Titanosaurus attempts to claim the Atlantic islands for himself and finds himself facing Zilla in a brutal fight. Despite heavy injury, Zilla manages to outwit and defeat the powerful dinosaur who warbles in a nod of respect before leaving for less crowded waters. What happens after is anyone's guess .

dewlap: tan to orange along the edge
spines: pale blue with darker tints toward the tips
claws: shiny black
teeth and cheek spikess: pale yellow to cream
armor knobs: brown with orange tints on the largest ones.
atomic fire: green

I'm pretty sure I'll be using this for the SD, I'm that pleased with it . Feel free to drop your suggestions or comments. Colors aren 'exactly' final so there is still room for advice there.
