HWE Ubagabi

Description

Name: Ubagabi

Alias: Uba-Ga-Bi, 'old hag fire'

Alignment: Chaotic Evil

Rank: 1, Kaijin

Race: Yokai

Size:

Width: 1 ft in diameter

Weight: technically weightless but exerts as much force as a human head.

Powers:

Rocket Granny - Ubagabi can fly incredible speeds, traveling a distance of 4 kilometers, roughly 3284 ft in the blink of an eye. They naturally levitate in the air on their own power.

At Least I Got Chicken - The only other form that Ubagabi can take on is that of a chicken. They have trouble maintaining this form for too long however and soon return to that of a flaming hag head.

Life Snuffing Flames - The Ubagabi is always surrounded by a nimbus of fire and can breathe massive streams of it to light everything around them on fire. If they fly into people at their usual speed, it induces a severe spiritual burn that leaves one with only 3 years to live, if the physical burn at that speed doesn't kill them outright.

Weaknesses:

Oil Thief! - Calling an Ubagabi an oil thief before it can slam into you will send it screaming away from you in shame.

Enigma Resistance - The flames of an Ubagabi hardly faze creatures like Kaiju that have great quantities of Enigma. Enigma Sensitives also have a much greater resistance to the spiritually burning nature of an Ubagabi's fire. It can still horribly burn things that one think it should, acting like billowing oil flames.

End To The Shame - If an Ubagabi receives a proper burial or is purified with Oriental Faith, then it will return to being a normal human soul and pass on.

Day 25: Oil Thieves and Fireballs

When Ruki still had cramps the following day but managed to make it to Kaitheros's lair to hear about the supposedly fireball Yokai. To her surprise, Kaitheros merely gestured to a scroll in the far corner bundled up with other elemental Yokai. She unfurled it and noted that it was a poem rather than a description. Furthermore, it was in english.

"Thero-Kun...what is this?"

"The ancestor that covered that particular period was...eccentric to say the least. It's better if you just read that aloud."

"You're kidding. Why can't we just talk about the Yokai?"

"Oh come now, it would be a shame if you didn't at least give it a once over." He insisted.

"Uuugh fine. Let's see..."

"Ubagabi, Ubagabi, a foot across and old to be.

Couldn't make an end to meet and thus took oil for free.

Ubagabi Ubagabi, too old to work and fancy free.

Made a tasty dumpling pie and was a sight to see.

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, couldn't fool the priests forever.

Was found out and labeled right, an oil thief to the letter.

Ubagabi Ubagabi, all around the town they said.

Oil Thief! Oil Thief! Now go bow your head!

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, her life of crime was such a ride.

Her shame too much, behind the shrine, committed suicide.

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, spirit never laid to rest.

Unclean and bitter, she became a mighty pest.

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, moves so fast and far from right.

Yokai  flies 4 kilometers and disappears from sight.

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, a blazing blight upon the night.

Hits you once and in three years you die without a fight.

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, burning, burning all the time.

Never ceasing, never stopping, until reminded of her crime.

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, now I lay you down to rest.

Such a shame, your trick beset, I couldn't take your chicken breast!

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, your end is neigh and terror undone.

An oil thief you were in life and now your race is run.

Ubagabi, Ubagabi, let this be a lesson learned.

Never let the elders flounder and in thievery be spurned."

"I thought it was pretty good." Kaitheros admitted.

"Please tell me she didn't do this for all of the scrolls she wrote." Ruki pleaded. "My ears are bleeding."

"I honestly think she was trying to ward off boredom. Still, the Ubagabi is a classic case of how poverty is the root cause of many of societies ailments."

"Well...she did get the point across. She must not have had too much trouble with this Yokai if she was amused enough to write a poem about it...in English no less. So what other fire Yokai did you want to talk about today?"

"On that matter there is the most basic of the 'fireball' Yokai...the Hinotama."

---

By far the silliest of the Yokai I've drawn so far. Considering she looks like an elderly Jimmy Neutron in drag...that's on fire.

a yokai that can be shamed, that's a first for me.
